Fall sunflower, not, to some eyes, as beautiful as earlier in the summer season – having been pecked at by numerous birds in search of sustenance – but I love them. There are so many birds out there feasting – goldfinch, various sparrows and chickadees galore; the happy dance they are doing makes me happy, and that too is beautiful. I’ve been saying for twenty years that a sign of aging – becoming an aged person – is an increased interest in the behavior of birds, yet we’re all aging, and birds have always been beautiful.
