It’s been too long since I posted pics of Le Grande Pooche – Diego Lou Mueller – and so here he is, in his recently shorn glory, looking up the road we live upon, on his toes (paws?) guarding the valley. He’s such a good boy, and a very diligent guard dog.

At 4.8 years old, Diego has settled into being a pretty ideal canine companion. Walks 3x per day, good for mom and fur-teen, sleeps a lot, too, as adolescents should and do everywhere (although he’s supposedly 28?, right? whatever). Isn’t a fussy eater, loves all humans even those clearly not in love with the size of him, and is, like most doggies, perennially happy.

As the weather cools, he spends more and more of his time outdoors, keeping watch. Sometimes, when the barking alarm is endless, and momma is trying to concentrate, I go outside to see what the absolute hell is my favorite idiot going on about?!!? Oops. Whadda ya know, he’s barking not simply to express himself and drive me nuts, but rather for a very good reason, because there are deer, or a flock of turkey, or a random truck parked up the road. Or, he hears and sees something I can’t yet – like the bear and her cub (so beautiful, so cute) crossing above our house a few weeks ago. Good boy. Good guard dog. Beloved companion. Sweet, silly, easy to please goofball. He wants – he needs – to go out again; this post, therefore, must end…
